TITLE
One of the major issues in J.D. Salingers The backstop in the Rye is the events leading up to the breakdown of a teenage boy, Holden Caulfield. Holdens breakdown is a result of his kindred with others, the death of his brother, his personality, and his destructive choices.
One of the main contributing factors towards Holdens breakdown is the death of his brother, Allie. The loss of a sibling is simply a traumatic event for anyone, especially a teenager. When somebody dies that you know and youve made a mis press in the past(a) involving them it emphasizes the guilt, and the sadness. It tell ons what you did feel like as if it was way worse than it in reality what actually happened. Holden is Allies older brother and its instinctive to feel like a younger brother is to a greater extent of a burden than a plugger. This is a great exemplification of the saying, you do not know what you have got until it is gone. Holden was biking with his friend and his brother wanted to tag along, like a regular younger sibling. Allie wanted to hang out with his older brother, because it was a usual thing. Holden always took his brother with him but not this time. later on Allies death, Holden remembers: It wasnt that I didnt use to take him with me when I went somewhere, I did.



But that one day, I didnt (Salinger 99). Holden feels guilty for his actions, which seem to a greater extent serious now more than ever. He remembers that one specific time he didnt take his brother, but did not remember all the generation he did. This shows more about Holdens personality and his invalidating thinking, which is also a link to his down fall. This is not the whole thing that Holden feels guilty about.
