Candide, by Voltaire, can be characterized by its sarcastic tone, as well as by its erratic, fantastical and fast-moving plot. This philosophical original is a very fast-paced, mock-adventure story which at times is grueling to follow. firearm I did not enjoy the plot for closely of this unique tale, I am incredibly glad I read Candide and might even be a break in person because of it. The satire helped open my eyes and expose me to newfound historical happenings, which I everlastingly appreciate, and last few chapters of Candide in particular taught a lesson that I will carry with me wheresoever I go. The outrageous and often unreal situations in which the characters acknowledge themselves in coupled with the pace of the story was disorienting at times. It was necessary to slow down while reading as I would get lost in the whirlwind of preposterous events. The sassy had a very cartoony feel to it, with characters coming back from the out of work and bouncing from one disaster to another. My favorite part was when Candide and Cacambo at long last reached the Utopian society in El Dorado, and I was downhearted when they chose to leave it for the pain and suffering the rest of their world seems to hold. Their reason out was ludicrous as well, why be happy and gamy here when everyone else is just as well off?

While I certainly can have pity for the characters at times, I could never truly get drawn into their tax journey. I will forgive this because the novel wasnt centre on plot or characters as it is a satire. I did not really find this book to be worthy until the last few chapters. Certainly I appreciated the historical aspects behind much of the story, and I also found Voltaires cynical sarcasm to be bitingly funny at times. However, when Candide returned to the Old World and began to question the true meaning of happiness, I became captivated and would not book the work down.
