Purpose: The purpose of these three labs consisted of three interdependent goals by which identification of C release and is accompanying reaction, could be achieved. Firstly, A specific carboxyl venomous and its accompanying alcohol were synthesized via hydrolysis. Secondly, the carboxylic acid was precipitated and then purified via vacuum filtration. Lastly, verification of the carboxylic acid and the alcohol were performed via melting point puke and nuclear magnetized resonance spectroscopy, respectively.

Week 1: A 100-mL round nooky flask was set-up for heating under reflux with a magnetized stir bar and the following ingredients in the flask: 3.44g NaOH, 4.60 mL distilled water, 9.60 mL ethylene glycol, and virtually 5 mL of Unknown Ester C Red. The classification was brought to a boil and upon sight the reflux ring, the mixture was boiled in the flask for approximately thirty minutes. During the thirty min. period, precipitate was observed forming in the flask. by and by having cooled to slightly above room temperature, a simple distillate apparatus was assembled.

The mixture was then distilled until 2.20 mL had been collected. The boiling range of the liquid collected from the distillation process was recorded as 86-97°C [CORRECTED VALUE: 88.5-99.9°C].
